AquaTrace Smart Capsule: An Innovative Solution for Water Pipeline Monitoring
Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Delhi Cantt. proudly participated in the 9th India International Water Week 2026, showcasing an innovative student project titled “AquaTrace Smart Capsule – Smarter Monitoring for a Safer Tomorrow.”
The project addresses an important environmental challenge: water loss caused by pipeline leaks, pressure changes and structural faults. Such problems often remain undetected, resulting in considerable water wastage, increased repair costs and disruption of water supply.
About the Project
The AquaTrace Smart Capsule is designed as a simple, low-cost and reliable system for the early detection and monitoring of problems in water pipelines. The concept uses a smart capsule equipped with sensors to collect information from inside a simulated pipeline system.
The working process demonstrated through the model involves four major stages:
Sense – Sensors collect information related to pipeline conditions.
Process – An ESP32-based system processes the sensor data and identifies abnormal patterns.
Transmit – The collected information can be transmitted to a server or cloud-based system for storage and monitoring.
Analyze – The data is analysed to detect possible leaks, pressure-related problems and other irregularities, helping in timely maintenance.
Student Innovation
The project demonstrates how electronics, sensors, programming, data analysis and IoT technologies can be combined to address real-world environmental challenges. The students developed a working pipeline simulation to explain how the proposed technology could contribute to reducing water wastage and improving pipeline maintenance.
The project reflects the school’s emphasis on innovation, experiential learning, environmental awareness and application of STEM skills to practical problems.
Theme
The project was presented in alignment with the theme of Climate Resilient Water Management, highlighting the importance of using technology for sustainable and efficient water management.
Conclusion
AquaTrace Smart Capsule represents an encouraging example of young learners using technology to address a critical environmental issue. The project highlights the potential of smart monitoring systems to support early fault detection, reduce water wastage and promote sustainable water management.
